Ranchi: Jewellery shop owners on Wednesday downed shutters across the city in protest against the murder of a jeweller on Tuesday.
Six armed assailants had shot at jeweller Rajesh Kumar Pal at his manufacturing unit near Bangla School under Daily market police station area on Tuesday. He later died of gunshot wounds at a city hospital.
Members of the Sona Chandi Vyavsayi Samiti closed their shops in protest against the murder and the lack of security for the business community. A dharna was also held in the locality where the crime took place. The members also resolved to pursue the matter with the administration.
A police officer said they are yet to make a breakthrough in the case.
A delegation of Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) met Ranchi SSP Surendra Kumar Jha on Wednesday to demand improvement of security in the city.
FJCCI president Dheeraj Taneja said, “The delegation discussed several issues, including revival of the tiger mobile patrolling and intensified police patrolling around establishments where large amounts of cash and valuables are exchanged.”
On May 5, criminals had also looted a jewellery shop at Lalpur.
