Jamshedpur: Independent MLA from Jamshedpur east assembly seat Saryu Rai alleged that the Tata Steel administration is not abiding by the terms and conditions it had accepted during the renewal of lease agreement with the then state government in 2005. The former cabinet minister in the earlier Raghubar Das government, pointed out that the steel company had promised to provide civic amenities to the areas around the factory, which includes non-Tata Steel command areas. But large areas face step-motherly treatment.
Rai sat on a day-long dharna outside the deputy commissioner (DC) office on Tuesday, to press for ensuring civic amenities to residents in the non-command areas of Jamshedpur east and west assembly segments by the steel major.
He alleged that former CM Raghubar Das, who was the Jamshedpur east MLA for 25 years before he lost in the 2019 elections, never took up the issue with the company. Das was aware of the problems faced by the residents he represented them in the assembly and should have raised voice for the rights of the people.
A memorandum addressed to CM Hemant Soren was handed over to DC Vijaya Jadhav on Tuesday, demanding immediate action so that the company is forced to fulfil its promises made during the signing of the lease agreement.
