Ranchi: Two days after Namkum circle officer Vinod Prajapati thrashed two garbage collection workers of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) at Rameshwar lane in Bariatu, the RMC on Tuesday issued a letter to the official concerned, asking him to reply in three days.
Talking to TOI, deputy municipal commissioner Rajnish Kumar said, “We received a written complaint by the duo and sent a letter to Prajapati for presenting his side of the incident within three days.”
Prajapati allegedly thrashed RMC worker Pintu Kachhap and his helper Sukram Mahlu when the duo were collecting garbage from near the Radha Krishna apartment on Saturday. Locals said Prajapati, who was in a car, came down from his vehicle and thrashed the workers for being forced to halt for less than a minute. The incident was captured in the CCTV cameras installed at the residential society gate.
“I was on my bike and waiting for the RMC vehicle to move. The officer got down from his vehicle and started using foul language and thrashed the duo, who were collecting garbage,” said Rajesh Agarwal, a resident of Rameshwaram lane.
Police sources said Kachhap, who was thrashed by the official, had approached Bariatu police station on Monday. However, a battery of people along with a lawyer reached Bariatu PS and discouraged him from filing a complaint against Prajapati.
Station in-charge of Bariatu police station Gyan Ranjan said, “We haven’t received a written complaint. So, no case has been registered.”
A source in the chief minister’s office said, “ The CM has constituted a committee and directed the members to probe the incident on a priority basis and submit the report immediately.”
