RANCHI: More than 100 pet dogs got free anti-rabies vaccines at the Ranchi Veterinary College of Birsa Agriculture University here on Wednesday. The college organised an awareness camp on rabies, a free vaccination camp for pets, a health check-up and distributed the anthelmintic medicine to raise awareness and eliminate the outbreak of rabies on Wednesday — World Rabies Day.
Sushil Prasad, dean of Ranchi Veterinary College, said, “Rabies is a deadly viral infectious disease transmitted to humans through bites and scratches from infected animals. If a rabid dog bites and the anti-rabies vaccine is not administered within 72 hours, death is certain. There is no cure for it in the world. Prevention is the only cure. Therefore, pet dogs should also be given an anti-rabies vaccines every year.”
According to the World Health Organisation report, around 59,000 people worldwide die every year due to rabies and 90%.
