Ramgarh: After failing to get ticket from Congress to contest the ensuing Ramgarh bypoll on February 27, Amit Mahto, younger brother of the party’s official candidate, Bajrang Mahto, has now announced support to his brother to ensure his victory.
Until last week, Amit made hectic parleys to Congress high command in Delhi to secure a ticket. He had also begun door-to-door campaigning for himself.
However, after AICC named Bajrang, former MLA Mamta Devi’s husband as its official candidate, Amit has now decided to lie low and tow the party line.
Bypoll in Ramgarh is necessitated after the seat fell vacant post conviction of Mamta Devi in 2016 rioting case by special MP MLA court of Hazaribag. She was granted jail term of five years and is currently in Hazaribag central jail.
On his change of stance, Amit said, “I will accompany my elder brother for nomination tomorrow. Laxman is with Ram and fight for ticket now comes to an end.”
Ajsu-P with the support of BJP has fielded Giridih MP Chandra Prakash Chaudhary’s wife Sunita. She filed her nomination on Saturday.
