RANCHI: A strong contingent of police force was deployed near Mallah Toli under Hindpiri police station area after a person desecrated a place of worship at 3am on Wednesday.
Police have arrested the accused on the basis of footage of closed circuit television cameras and the statements of witnesses. They have, however, avoided revealing his name, citing law and order issues. District police, Jharkhand Armed Police, and the Rapid Action Police personel were deployed at the site and the nearby Durga Puja pandal. The administration conducted flag march on the Mahatma Gandhi road later in the day.
Ranchi SSP Kishore Kaushal, city SP Anshuman Kumar and SDO Deepak Dubey visited the spot.
The SSP said, “The administration has appealed to the people to maintain social harmony. Action would be taken against the accused as per the law.”
Different community members assured that they would maintain peace and harmony. Peace committee member Jay Yadav said, “People from several communities were unanimous in their decision that anti-social elements would not be allowed to disturb peace.”
Asked whether the accused is mentally unstable, the SSP said that he would have to prove it in the court of law.
Several BJP leaders, including former chief minister and MLA Babulal Marandi, Ranchi MLA CP Singh and deputy mayor Sanjiv Vijayavergiya visited the spot.
