Ranchi: There will be no respite from the heatwave like situation that is sweeping the state, Met department in Ranchi said on Tuesday.
Director, Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, Abhishek Anand said that the highest temperature recorded on Tuesday in Ranchi was 39.2 degrees, while in Jamshedpur and Daltonganj it was 40 and 44.6 degrees respectively. “Ranchi also recorded 75% humidity and in Jamshedpur it was over 80% and will continue to be so for the next five days.” Anand explained that evaporation stops once humidity touches 100% and that’s the reason for the uneasiness due to the heat.
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted light rain on Wednesday morning in the eastern part of the state. There are also chances of light showers, moderate to high thunderstorms and 50-55 kmph winds in the eastern portions of Jharkhand including Ranhi.
People are also struggling to cope with the heat. Many of the students of Azim Premji University who have come to Jharkhand from Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kerala and other states for field studies as part of their dissertation work, fell sick due to the heatwave. Team coordinator Sushma Pandey told TOI, “Five of our team members suffered health complications due to heat during their field visit to Palamu, Latehar, Torpa and Basiya. Of five, three girls were severely sick and one had to be sent back to Bangalore.”
Babita Devi, who runs a tea stall near Kokar Industrial area, said that she had to close her business during noon.
