Daltonganj: For better crowd management, officials at the Daltonganj railway station have started using mega mikes (a hand-held public address system) at platforms. This initiative supplements the traditional announcements made through the inquiry counter.
Station superintendent Umesh Kumar said, “The East Central Railway has directed us to use mega mikes. So, we are using them. It’s for crowd management at platforms.”
There are now two up lines and one down line at the station besides lines of goods trains.
In response to concerns about sudden platform changes causing chaos, Umesh Kumar stated, “Railway authorities have requested for minimizing the necessity for platform changes. If such a change becomes necessary, announcements regarding the platform alteration are to be made a minimum of 2 hours before the scheduled arrival or departure of the respective train.”
The official said, “We had one such episode when we had to change the platform mid night. It happened when coach S 9 of Sambalpur-Jammu Tawai express was attacked by a gang of robbers on September 24. We had to then move passengers from platform 1 to 3.”
The railways is updating its TIB (train information board) and CIB (coach indicator board) for the convenience of the passengers.
