Jamshedpur: Gurabanda police on Tuesday arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping a 31-year-old disabled woman. The police station in-charge said that the accused is a distant relative of the woman and both live in the same village. On May 13, the woman had gone to collect firewood in a forest.
Taking advantage of the deserted area, the accused allegedly gagged her mouth and raped her, the woman told the police.
The OC said the FIR was lodged by the woman’s family on May 16, three days after the incident as she was allegedly threatened by the accused, the OC added.
Only when her health condition deteriorated, she narrated the ordeal to her parents, following which the matter reached the police.
The woman has been shifted to a government hospital for medical examination on Monday, while the accused was forwarded to jail on Tuesday, the OC said. He has been charged under section 376 of IPC.
