Ranchi: A day after RJD chief Lalu Prasad was handed over a jail term of five years and penalised Rs 60 lakh by a special CBI court in the Doranda treasury fodder scam case, the former Bihar chief minister underwent a medical examination at the Rims cardiology and dental departments on Tuesday.
Lalu was taken to the cardiology block amid tight security and electrocardiography (ECG) and electrocardiogram were done to check the functioning of his heart. After finishing the medical examination, he was taken to dental block after he had complained of toothache to doctors of the medical board looking after him.
Talking to TOI, the cardiology department head and member of the board, Dr Prakash Kumar, said, “We have conducted ECH and electrocardiogram on Lalu Prasad and his heart pumping function is normal. He has an artificial valve implanted already and it is also functioning properly. For a patient of his age and with a history of hypertension, his heart function is normal.”
At the dental block, the associate professor at Rims Dental College examined him and suggested a root canal in the right lower jaw. “One of his teeth in his lower jaw has developed a cavity and we are planning to perform a root canal therapy on Wednesday,” a dentist from the college said.
Lalu’s close aide and former RJD MLA Bhola Yadav accompanied him for the entire period of the medical examination till his return in his room on the first floor.
Lalu left his room at the paying ward around 12:25 pm and stayed at the cardiology department till 12:40 pm.
He went to the dental block around 12:45 pm and left in an ambulance for paying ward around 1:11 pm.
