RANCHI: Ruling JMM rubbished BJP‘s corruption charge against chief minister Hemant Soren and his family and called the saffron party’s Sunday rally in the city an act of betrayal to the tribal people of the state as its national president J P Nadda “did not disclose the Union government’s stand on the demand for a separate Sarna religious code”.
Reacting to Nadda’s statements on JMM ignoring the state tribals, party spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said, “Last year, an all-party delegation from Jharkhand, including from BJP, had met Union home minister Amit Shah and demanded a separate religious code for Sarna. The delegation had met Shah after the Jharkhand vidhan sabha unanimously passed a resolution in this regard in 2020.”
” Nadda came, spoke for 35 minutes and sought the trust of the state’s tribal people, but did not speak a word about Sarna,” the JMM spokesperson added.
He also said Sunday’s rally clearly showed that the BJP was at unease.
“Nadda was clearly worried and that is natural because they managed to win just two (ST) seats (in Jharkhand) by luck. Moreover, the elections are approaching in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat,” Bhattacharya said.
The JMM spokesperson also said a party delegation under Soren will soon meet President Ram Nath Kovind before his term ends to demand the separate Sarna code and include it in the national census.
Responding to Nadda’s corruption charges against chief minister Soren, JMM said the BJP and its three former chief ministers in the state were obsessed with the incumbent CM’s properties.
“Former CM Raghubar Das made repeated claims of land grabbing against the Sorens and even constituted a special investigation team but could not find anything. This is all part of BJP’s game plan to mislead the people,” Bhattacharya claimed.
