Ranchi: Several districts in north-eastern and central parts of Jharkhand recorded thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds on Thursday evening.
Gumla, Bokaro, Dumka, Lohardaga and Godda districts received rain between 3 pm and 7 pm.
Although there was overcast skies in Ranchi, it didn’t witness any rain till late evening.
Although the weather office in Ranchi said the rainfall data of the evening was not available, several areas in north-eastern Jharkhand received light to moderate showers overnight. “At 36.8 mm, Jamtara recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours followed by Godda (22.2 mm), Dumka (8 mm) and Giridih (7 mm),” the IMD said.
“North-eastern, central and southern parts of Jharkhand are likely to witness light to moderate showers accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty winds blowing at speeds of up to 50 kilometres an hour on Friday and Saturday,” Abhishek Kumar Anand, scientist at IMD Ranchi, said. “The thunder and lightning activity, which is due to a westerly trough line passing through the state, is likely to last till May 23,” he added.
The maximum temperature in Ranchi hovered at 39 degrees Celsius in Ranchi on Thursday, which was two notches above normal. Daytime temperatures in Daltonganj, Bokaro Thermal and Chaibasa also remained above normal on Thursday, the IMD said.
