Ranchi: Unidentified armed persons shot at a jeweller, Rajesh Kumar Pal, in broad daylight at his manufacturing unit near Bangla School under Daily market police station area on Tuesday afternoon. He later died of gunshot wounds in a city hospital.
Police said six armed persons came at Pal’s workplace on three bikes. Four of them went inside in an apparent bid to loot valuables but Pal put up a stiff resistance. The criminals fired at the victim and also hit one of his relatives before fleeing. Pal was rushed to a private hospital but died during the course of treatment.
Senior officers rushed to the spot and examined the closed-circuit television cameras footage. A pistol used by the assailants was also found from the spot.
City SP Anshuman Kumar said, “We have initiated several steps, including checking of vehicles to nab the criminals. It is not clear whether the criminals had come to loot valuables or murder Pal.”
Last week, a land dealer, Kamla Bhusan, was shot dead on Ratu road.
