Gumla: The Gumla district administration has set up a five-member team to probe the alleged placement fraud with the students of Gumla Polytechnic College and sought report with 48 hours for further action, officials said on Saturday.
Sixty-eight out of the 246 diploma graduates of the Gumla Polytechnic College, run on public-private-partnership mode, were recently informed by Rishab Enterprises, a placement agency, of getting placed in Ahmedabad-based SKHY Tech company.
The 68 job aspirants reached Ahmedabad on May 16 and contacted the placement agency. However, the agency told the graduates that SKHY Tech company would accept only the industrial training passouts and not diploma holders. “The agency later told us that they would place us in some other company but at lesser salary,” remarked Shahjad Alam, an aspirant, adding that the candidates returned to Gumla. “We invested a huge amount of money to go to Ahmedabad. Ideally, the college should have done proper verification before asking us to go,” he added.
On Friday, several students also staged a protest in front of the district administration office and the college, based on which the officials swung into action.
Gumla SDO Ravi Anand said, “We have set up a team of five officers to probe the issue and report within 48 hours before initiating further action by fixing accountability.”
