RANCHI: The district police on Tuesday formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the death of a female student of BIT Mesra, whose body was found on the railway track in Tatisilwai on Monday.
During the subsequent probe, she was identified as Pallavi Kumari, a resident of Bariatu. Her male friend is suspected to be behind her murder, police said.
SP (rural) Naushad Alam, said, “A SIT has been formed to investigate the death. The accused, Piyush Tiwari, has fled the state and a search is on based on his mobile phone location. There is a mark on the body of the deceased, indicating that she was assaulted. I will share additional information only after receiving the postmortem report.”
The current mobile phone location of the suspect is traced to Benaras in Uttar Pradesh. “A case murder has been filed and Piyush has been named as an accused,” he said.
Deceased’s father names Piyush in plaint
Police sources said that the deceased’s father in his complaint has named Piyush after which police are treading the cases keeping him as the main suspect.
“She had come home recently to attend a puja and was supposed to stay for some more days. However, she left home yesterday (Monday) to hostel, citing some work. Later, when we called, she said she had an argument with someone. Her phone was switched off in the afternoon and her body was found in the evening,” said a cop quoting her parents as saying. Both her parents work in Rims.
