Ranchi: Former Jharkhand high court judge Amitav Kumar Gupta was administered the oath of office and secrecy as the chairman of Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC) on Thursday.
The oath was administered by governor Ramesh Bais at Raj Bhawan.
Gupta became the 5th chairman of the commission ever since it was set up by the government in April 2002.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by CM Hemant Soren, chief secretary Sukhdeo Singh and principal secretary Avinash Kumar
JSERC is the apex state electricity regulatory authority responsible for determining tariff for generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, regulate power purchase, promote generation of electricity from renewable sources. It had been functioning without a chairman since June 12, 2020 after Arbind Prasad put in his papers. The state energy department on September 9 notified that Gupta has been appointed as the chairman.
The commission’s current strength stands at three.
