Dhanbad: City-based laparoscopic surgeon Dr Samir Kumar, who had shut down his clinic and left the district on May 3 after getting extortion calls and death threats from gangster Aman Singh, reopened his Matkuria nursing home on Thursday.
Talking to TOI, Dr Kumar said, “I went to my in-laws’ place in New Delhi and was considering staying there. But the Dhanbad SSP took swift and stern action against Singh and his gang members and he assured me of safety and thus, I decided to come back.”
On May 4, Dhanbad police traced the calls being made to the doctor and found out that Singh, who was lodged in Dhanbad jail, was making these calls through his henchmen from inside the jail. Subsequently, an FIR was lodged against him and his henchmen and four men were arrested.
