Ranchi: The Jharkhand Congress is eyeing an organisational overhaul at state, district and block levels. The party will form the Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC).
State party president Rajesh Thakur on Monday said the AICC’s three-day Nav Sankalp summit which concluded in Udaipur passed resolutions to boost the party’s organisation base at the ground level ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“A significant takeaway was that all pending posts at state, district and block levels have to be filled within 90-180 days. Decks will be cleared for the formation of JPCC. We will evaluate performances of the district presidents to appoint fresh ones and activate block/mandal level party outfits,” he said, adding, the focus of state units will be to help the party at the national level.
Following its continuous poll debacles, the AICC had convened the three-day camp to brainstorm and deliberate on ways to revive the Indian National Congress to take on the BJP.
The saffron party has consolidated its position by clinching assembly polls, while the Congress has ended up as second and third rung player in most states.
In Jharkhand, however, it came to power in 2019 in alliance with the JMM and the RJD. But insiders believe that despite being part of the government, the Congress hasn’t been able to solidify its position on the ground and is battling image crisis.
The ongoing ‘office-of-profit’ row surrounding CM Hemant Soren, MLA brother Basant Soren and minister in the state cabinet Mithilesh Thakur is seen as a further dent to the Congress party’s credibility. The coalition partners haven’t been able to tackle the barbs of corruption hurled by the BJP.
Another worker said, “We are asked not to be a mute spectator in the affairs of the government. So, the Congress will not cede ground to the JMM.”
