Ramgarh/Gumla: Chief minister Hemant Soren’s cousin Rekha Kumari was on Thursday elected zilla parishad member from seat no. 15 in Gola block of Ramgarh district. Voting for the first phase of panchayat polls were held on May 14 in Gola, along with Chitarpur and Dulmi blocks in Ramgarh district.
Rekha defeated her nearest rival Neha Devi by a margin of 4,488 votes. Rekha bagged 11,326 votes.
In the first phase of panchayat elections here, polling was held for six seats in 15-member zilla parishad in Ramgarh district.
In Gumla, Josima Khakha, wife of Congress Simdega MLA Bhushan Bara, too, was elected a zilla parishad member in Simdega district after the declaration of results for the first phase.
Talking to TOI, Josima said, “I will work for the development of the area and make sure they get the benefits of the welfare schemes.”
She was elected for Simdega zilla parishad from Pakartarn block. It was her maiden poll win in any elections.
Relatives of other political leaders from Pakartarn seat who fought included Irin Ekka, daughter of former Jharkhand minister Irin Ekka, and Vishal Tirkey, son of former minister Niel Tirkey. Both lost to Josima.
