Bokaro: A local court on Thursday awarded life imprisonment to a 28-year-old man for killing his wife for dowry. The incident took place 10 months after their marriage on April 7, 2019 in Aasudih under Pindrajoda police station.
The convict, identified as Yogesh Kumar Singh, poured kerosene on his wife Puja because her parents failed to meet his demand for a motorbike.
The additional session judge-cum-special judge for crimes against women at Bokaro court, Yogesh Kumar Singh, held the accused guilty under Section 304(B). The complaint against Jha was filed by Puja’s mother.
Puja, who was originally from Singhpur in Kasmar block, got married to Jha on June 18, 2018. “Soon after their marriage, Jha started demanding a bike from his in-laws. The in-laws somehow managed to give him Rs 20,000 to purchase the bike,” special public prosecutor R K Rai said.
He added, “Jha bought the bike after giving an instalment of Rs 20,000 and demanded his in-laws to pay the rest of the amount. When his in-laws could not pay the amount, Jha got angry and in a fit of rage, poured kerosene on his wife and killed her.”
