Bokaro: Eight girls from Bokaro who were allegedly trapped at their work site in Thekkalur Avinashi area in Tamil Nadu were rescued on Tuesday and are on their way home, deputy commissioner Kuldeep Choudhary said. “The district labour department in coordination with the state migrant cell made these girls board Alleppy Express on Tuesday. They will reach here on Thursday,” he added.
The administration officials here claimed that the girls weren’t trapped. “They didn’t like the job and only wanted to return home. One of the eight girls named Reena told us that they do not like the job and wanted to return home, but the employer was not allowing them to leave. They also claimed that they were not getting the exact remuneration that the employer promised them,” said an official.
The girls had gone to work in August this year on the reference from other girls of their villages who are already working there.
The district administration and the state labour department here swung into action after former MLA of Gomia, Yogender Mahto, wrote a letter to chief minister Hemant Soren a few days ago informing him about the eight girls.
