Daltonganj: Five persons of a marriage party hailing from Khatin and Sarna villages under Chhaterpur police station limits in Palamu district died while two others were critically injured when their car fell from a bridge into the canal under Bihar’s Nabinagar police station limits in the early hours on Sunday.
Chhaterpur SDPO Ajay Kumar said the place of accident falls under Bihar’s Nabinagar Police Station. “Seven ‘baratis’ were returning from the wedding ceremony from Nabinagar to Chhaterpur in the car that met with the accident,” he added.
Sources said the deceased were identified as Ranjit, Abhay, Babloo, Akshay, and Shubham. They were between 20 and 30 years of age. The two injured are battling for life at the BHU hospital in Varanasi. They are yet to be identified. Around 50 people were part of the ‘baraat’ to Baghi village in Nabinagar from Chhaterpur on Saturday. The person driving the vehicle might have been drunk or dozed off, leading to the tragedy, sources added.
